Saturday 28th October will always remain as a good memory - the day that our China gave birth to 8 beautiful bundles of joy!
We'd been out shopping for some dog food and came back to find China shredding an old settee ready to nest in. We had already prepared for such eventuality and so into her welping box she went. Within half an hour the first was born. What a lovely, if not rather emotional moment. Suddenly our baby was a mother! With regularity 5 more followed - all within 3 hours. We thought she'd stopped at six pups - her scan only showed 7 pups and after the sixth, China didn't seem to have any more left in her. For over three hours she got on with caring for her newborn.

Then, without warning, she had a couple of contractions and looked like she was about to go to the toilet when another puppy appeared. Fantastic! - number 7 had arrived. There we thought the journey had ended. Jonathan went to bed and left Mark 'on shift' to watch over mum and her new pups. When Jonathan came down four hours later, much to his surprise he found that 7 pups had become 8 !! During that rest period China suddenly gave birth to the eighth and being Mr Cool, Calm and Collected, Mark took it all in his stride.
So here we are some 8 weeks later - after all the poo, wee, cuddles and much fun (and hard work), we are thinking about sending them to their new homes across the country. A happy time knowing that we have done lots for them in their early weeks and given them a great start. Sad because those little bundles of joy will be missed! As they were born near Halloween we chose appropriate seasonal names:
Ledgands Trick or Treat;
Ledgands Magic N Mayhem
Ledgands Bats N Belfrys;
Ledgands Witches N Wizards
Ledgands Cackles N Curses;
Ledgands Pumpkins N Potions
Ledgands Ghosts N Ghouls and finally
Ledgands Spirits N Spells Still they have all got FAB homes to go to, with commited families to love and care for them and so they will be fine. No doubt we will catch up with them as they grow and as we get news, we'll share it with you all. |
